If you mean "each other" as you and your mate- you are missing the point. I have finally got out of an abusive marriage a year ago. In counseling, I had a really hard time accepting being told I had been emotional abused and verbally abused for the past 14 years- my counselor finally asked why and I said because although many times I tried to make it better- there were many times I yelled back and fought back. I was told it does not matter how you react to the abuse- it is /was abuse and abuse is abuse.
